We recently celebrated the 1st birthday of our second son Alexander. A very happy little boy who is learning to stand up on his own and can now say about a dozen words. The day of his actual birthday was very chaotic, being a Tuesday, which is the day that his mum has to get up really early to go to work which is in Hallam, which is about 2 hours away from our house. She didn’t get to Alex in the morning, but my nanny came over to help get the kids ready for childcare. That night we had dinner at my parents’ house and Alex got to open presents from us. We had ravioli from Bellisima, a local Italian grocer.
I made him a card.
Childcare Birthday Party
On Wednesday, which is Kayla’s day off from work, there was a little birthday party in Alex’s childcare room. I left work early to attend. They sang “The earth goes round the sun, the earth goes round the sun, the earth goes round the sun and Alexander turns one”. This song is sung whilst Kayla carries Alex around a mat with the sun on it and Alex holds a little Planet Earth squishy ball. Charlie came in from his room to join in and then we all went home early.
Alexander’s 1st Birthday Party
Whilst our eldest son Charlie was born during the years that COVID ran rampant, missing out on a proper 1st birthday party, our second son Alexander was lucky to have one. We’d initially planned to have the party at our place, but given our backdoor is broken and very hard to open and close, my parents graciously let us have it across the road at theirs. It was a similar setup to what we’d previously done at Charlie’s 2nd birthday the year before.
Kayla did most of the preparation, ordering decorations and attempting to make a big balloon garland. We now understand why they are so expensive, they take ages, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing and have kids climbing all over you. In the end she did a good job, but it wasn’t as big as she had planned.
Kayla’s family came over early to help cook some food and my mum picked up some catering from Coles, which was really good. I highly recommend their wrap platters.
