Whilst Netflix has been on Australian shores the longest, Stan and Amazon Prime are quickly shaping up to be worthy competitors. As the libraries of these platforms change over time, it is worth giving each of them a go for a few months at a time.
Overall, Netflix is the only constant we have had in our household, with the biggest and best library of original content and an overall better mix of content. There are times after we finish bingeing the latest seasons of Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black and other shows that we run out of shows that interest us, so venture off into these other platforms for a few months at a time.
Stan has some of our favourite shows on it such as Community, Parks and Recreation, Misfits and a lot of popular shows that we haven’t watched yet but are highly acclaimed. Next time we get Stan we will probably be watching shows like UnReal, Orphan Black, Twin Peaks, The Handmaid’s Tail and finishing off Who Is America? which we never finished.
Amazon Prime is the latest streaming platform we have tried and we are still on our free trial. I’m currently obsessed with The Boys which is their latest big exclusive show. My watchlist for things to check out soon is also quite extensive. The price of Amazon Prime is also super cheap and makes it worthwhile.
I suppose Foxtel is also an option, but their online service is very overpriced and very buggy. It was helpful whilst Game of Thrones was on, but I can’t picture myself subscribing to it again for a long time.
Overall, I think subscribing to multiple services at once to be a bit of a waste of money. But turning them on and off, with no more than 2 services running at a time is probably the best option if you can justify the cost.
