If you are a new dog owner or you are introducing your inside dog into outside life here are some useful tips.
Secure your fence line
If you have a dog that likes to dig, ensure there are no gaps under the fence that a little bit of digging could turn into an exit.
Ensure there is nothing near the fence that dogs could climb or jump onto in order to jump over the fence. Some breeds are more likely to explore vertically than others.
Give your dog a bed
This could be inside a dog house or somewhere else undercover depending on the size of your dog. This might even be inside your house. It is important for a dog to feel like they have their own space and helps prevent them from hanging out in places they shouldn’t.
Get your dog into a routine
If you can take your dog for a morning walk at around the same time each day, they will hopefully use this as an opportunity to poop outside of your yard. Just be sure to bring plastic bags to clean up after them.
Pick up poop immediately
If your dog does poop in your yard, clean it up immediately. You can scoop it up into a flower bed or another part of the garden where no one will step on it. The reason why you should do this as soon as you notice it is that it can melt into the grass when it rains and it then becomes much harder to remove.
Keep food bowl clean
You don’t want to attract ants to your house and wet dog food can lead to ants. Always try and wash the bowl after the dog has finished eating. You can also get various types of dog bowls that will prevent insects from getting to the food due to water traps and other interesting techniques.
