Types of Smoke Alarms
Most homes have hardwired smoke alarms that get power from the electrical system of the house. For these types of smoke alarms, you should use a 9-volt battery to ensure that the smoke alarm doesn’t lose power. If you have a battery-powered smoke alarm, any type of fresh battery should work well.
Smoke alarms are an integral part of home safety, so it’s important to choose the right type of batteries for your specific needs. For instance, if you’re going on vacation, be sure to change the batteries in your smoke alarms before you leave.
Types of Batteries
Alkaline batteries are the most common type of battery. Alkaline batteries can last for ten years, making them great for smoke alarms that need to be powered on long-term. Although you can buy alkaline batteries at any store, Energizer and Duracell brands tend to be better than generics. Lithium batteries also last a long time, so they are also good for smoke alarms. Lithium batteries have a bit more voltage than alkaline batteries which can be helpful in some situations.
