I’ve been publishing collector guides for most of the Woolworths and Coles collectable freebies over the past few years and now I’ve been playing catchup on some of the older sets as Coles and Woolworths tend to delete all the pictures and information once the promotions are over. This makes it tricky for anyone who wants to find a checklist so that they can go back and complete their collection later on.
As a lot of these old promotional items often end up in Op Shops, there’s always going to be new generations of kids finding these and wanting to finish off their sets, as well as people finding their old collections in storage and wanting to fill in some gaps. So yes, here in 2023, I am writing about the Woolworths Ooshies promotion with Disney+ from 2020 back when we were all in lockdown.
What are Ooshies?
Ooshies are a collectable toy series by Headstart International. These little rubbery figurines are often sold in blind bags or box sets and have partnered with all the most popular toy series over the years including DC Superheroes, Marvel Superheroes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Disney, WWE, Pixar, Star Wars, Barbie, Transformers, Care Bears, Disney Junior, Sesame Street, PJ Mask, Frozen II, Ryan’s World and Harry Potter.
Each set contains characters of various rarities, and various repaints or versions of characters to make collecting them fun.
Woolworths Ooshies 2020 Set
So far, Woolworths in Australia has had two sets of exclusive Ooshies which were given away in blind bags with each purchase of $30 and with bonus packets awarded if you bought participating brands. These promotional Oooshie sets were both in collaboration with Disney, once in 2019 to promote the remake of The Lion King and again in 2020 to promote Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars on Disney+.
2020 Woolworths Disney+ Ooshies
The set that came out in 2020 featured 36 regular toys as well as a few rare ones that exist outside of that. You could buy a special collector case to store your regular 36 Disney+ Ooshies. Each of these regular ones had equal odds of being found, so their rarity was all just as common as each other, despite some having different attributes such as changing colour or gold or silver.
The Rare Disney+ Woolworths Ooshies
There are 4 rare alternate glitter versions of characters, the ones in the first spot for each series. That is Elsa, Woody, Captain Marvel and The Mandalorian. If you are lucky enough to find these, you can swap out your regular versions with them. In addition to the regular 36 characters and the 4 rare alternate ones, there were also 2 super rare ones for The Child (Grogu/Baby Yoda) and Thor of which only 100 each were made. There are images of all of these below as unnumbered parts of the checklist below.
Are Woolworths Ooshies Worth Anything?
The hype around these toys has been over for quite some time, but they still sell on eBay as new kids get into the newer Ooshie retail sets and want to expand their collections. The promotional Woolworths Ooshies are typically only selling for a dollar or two each whilst the regular sets typically sell for about $30-40 per set with their collector case. A set that included the full set, case and the 4 rare glitter Ooshies has sold for $150 + $16 post in 2023, so there still seems to be some money in those rare ones, but overall, these sets are not worth much money at them moment.
